The Aboriginal Mutant Healing Message

By: Mats Loefkvist

Many years ago I helped a European company to organize public festivals with indigenous people. One of the festivals we planned was going to be with Aborigines, Maoris and South Pacific people. After weeks of preparation I travelled to Australia to meet and make plans with the native Aboriginal people.

I never met any of my Australian contacts and I had no idea about what was going to happen. When I arrived in Sydney, I was greeted by an elderly lady at the airport who accommodated me for a couple of days. My host had all the connections with people involved in swimming with dolphins and dolphin healing which is one area I enjoy very much.

Although dolphins was not my primary goal I made plans to go to Perth and the further north famous areas for dolphin swimming.

The mutant message down under.

After a few days in Sydney I was on my way to Alice Springs which is famous for the Ayers Rock or Uluru which is the aboriginal name.

Before starting my trip to Australia I came across a book called the “Mutant Message Down Under” by Mrs. Marlo Morgan. The book tells the story about Mrs Morgan meeting with the aboriginal people to gather information about healing secrets used by the indigenous people.

Living in a fancy hotel and dressed in western fashion she was picked up by an aboriginal man in a Jeep. She was taken for a very long ride out in the desert and finally asked to change her clothing and get rid of all personal belongings. The aboriginal group started to walk and she had no other option than following.

During many months she went through healing experiences and learned secrets that changed her life forever.

Inspired by the book I wanted to have a close experience with this old and misunderstood culture. On my arrival at Alice Springs, I was greeted by an Aboriginal man who explained to me that he had taken one week off from work just to be able to serve me.

The Northern Territory.

My guide took me for a 4 hour car ride out in the wilderness and I thought that I will be the next person walking for months with the native people.

His family lived in an area called Utopia and this was our destination. For two days I had the honor to live with these beautiful people. Their more western style house was an exception to the area which I was going to discover the very next day.

We moved around to the different outposts to meet family members that all lived in the same looking 3 x 5 meter corrugated iron shed. It was explained to me, that the building of these sheds, was a way for the Australian government to comfort the native people.

Unfortunately the shed could not be used as a living area as it was far too hot. People slept outside as they had done for thousands of years and used the shed for storage.

One with the nature.

The aboriginal people are truly living in harmony with their land and I had the feeling that they were planted into the area as beautiful flowers and guardians of the nature, adding to the quality of life. Trying to separate these people from the nature will bring them to a slow death.

Unfortunately many people will call them lacy and would prefer to pull them up by the roots. One way to gain access of their land and get what you want is to bring them alcohol. The aboriginal people have a different set of genes and get addicted very quickly. Still today the alcohol distribution are used by officials to control the people.

The message has been changed.

These guardians of the nature are living in total peace and harmony if they are left in their natural environment. They keep their secrets about the nature and healing for themselves as the white man would not understand it anyway.

Instead of accepting that these people are the key to understanding the secrets of the nature the message has been changed to a general opinion that the aborigines are lacy, unable and unwilling to adapt to the western world.

In a changing world with more frequent natural disasters, I wonder where the Australian people will go for help, if it happened to them?
